High Risk Pregrnancy
For every woman, her pregnancy is a beautiful journey.
On occasion, there may be some hurdles that will be encountered during this wonderful experience. These can be demanding on a woman’s general health and well being, and we at Isis work hard to minimize those challenges.
Some patients may have experienced high blood pressure issues, diabetes, kidney problems, neurological problems, heart disease, etc. Some of these issues may be pre-existing and can be uncovered during the course of a pregnancy. We can then plan and treat accordingly.
Twin/ triplet or multiple gestations are considered high-risk , as these patients require closer scrutiny in terms of their general health, blood pressure, etc. and also for closer monitoring of the fetuses’ growth.
Patients on multiple medications need to report this in their first obstetric encounter so they can be best advised as to the continuance of medications through the course of pregnancy.
Some patients who opt to undergo certain genetic tests that may be positive are also considered high-risk if the situation demands it.
In summary, any situation that may compromise the well being of the mother or fetus is considered a high-risk pregnancy.
The key to the management of these risks, as well as a good outcome relies greatly on close physician follow-up and being a well informed patient with good support from your doctor.
